After 2 weeks with our Recap/ Freewrite Logs it is easy to see that there are a lot of students doing beautifully with keeping up in class. Their logs are complete, freewrites done with effort, and all presented well.
There are about 10 percent of students who have barely even written in their log books. These students do not pay attention in class, do not take down the recap notes, and are not completing any homework. You will not succeed in this class without putting the work in.
I have high expectations for you all. These logs are not difficult, they just require you to put about 15 min of your time in in class, and about 20 min per free write at home.
Weekly Curriculum Update
Honors
We are currently reading A Separate Peace and will tackle chapters 4-7 this week. There is daily reading homework that most students are completing, but there are some who need to step it up and read at home. There is zero tolerance for not reading in an Honors Class. It will affect every assignment you complete.
CP1 and 2
We are halfway done with our short story unit. This unit has less hw because the reading for most stories is done in class (not enough books to send home).
We are finishing up The Scarlet Ibis today, and heading into The Lottery this week. This text connects well with The Hunger Games, a great book many read for Summer Reading.
2 Free Writes are due every Friday, and many days the homework is to finish the Recap from class. I often give a focus for how the recap should be finished (e.g. in your Description of the class please summarize the reading from today, or, For your Description today respond to a particular question).
